
A Board of Directors is comprised of a group of elected or appointed members who govern the activities and oversee the operation of the organization.
Board of Directors spreadsheet should include:
- Member names
- Titles
- Company where member is employed
- Contact Information (Email and Phone)
Board of Directors should:
Consist of a minimum of 5-7 members
Be an odd number to avoid voting ties.
100% Giving. (If those who run the organization do not financially support it, why should a grantor?)
Follow Roberts Rules of Order
Tip: Grant applications often require the signature of the Board President for final submission. (Watch grant deadlines and schedules to ensure signers are available.)
BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECRUITMENT
Board members are often solicited based on their title or position within a certain company; this is not always the best option. A nonprofit organization must have a WORKING Board of Directors. Look for members who are passionate about the organization, its' mission and recognize their role as a critical part of fundraising efforts.
