What? Is it true that you have never heard the story of the Bread Family Christmas? Oh my, well it's time to grab a big cup of hot chocolate, get comfy and let me share one of the most delicious stories never told!
Our little story began a very long time ago. Although very little is known about the origin of the Bread Family, their ancestry can be traced all the way back to the days of Moses and the leavened lineage of the Manna’s.
Throughout the ages, times changed. The Bread Family began to rise and soon became known worldwide, but the tale of The Bread Family Christmas was not lost and continues to be shared from one generation to the next.
Christmas time was and still is a very special time for all Breads and that is where our story begins. A long time ago on Christmas Eve, the wind was howling, snow was falling, and the temperature dipped below zero. Brrr, it was very, very cold. The hustle and bustle of the season seemed to be in full swing.
Corn & Ginger Bread were busy preparing for their annual Bread Family Christmas celebration. There was always too much to do and little time to do it. It wouldn’t be long before the holiday guests arrived.
Corn & Ginger were blessed with six little muffins, Blueberry, Banana Nut, English, Chocolate Chip, Bran and Pumpkin. Each with their own unique personality. They were so different, sometimes it was hard to believe they were made from the same batch.
Blueberry was often sad and always seemed to leave an imprint on the lives she touched. Banana Nut was the comedian of the family. He loved to tell jokes but had a tough time keeping it all together.
Next in line was little Miss English. Her split personality and sense of humor posed quite the challenge.
Chocolate Chip was determined to be the star of the show. Ha, ha, he was certainly a chip off the 'ol block.
Following the line-up was Bran, nicknamed "the peacemaker” because she always tried to avoid confusion and much preferred everything to run smooth. During times of trouble, she often reminded everyone that “this too shall pass.”
And last but not least, the baby of the family, little Pumpkin. She added just a touch of spice to round out the warmth.
For Corn and Ginger, the enthusiasm just wasn't there this year. Times were tough. Corn was worried about the troubled economy, and the stress of raisin six little muffins was ongoing. Day after day, Corn rolled to the factory because his family kneaded the dough.
It was no secret that times were difficult for everyone, and the Bread family was no exception. They were forced to cut back and tighten their belts, at least they tried too. Nevertheless, Christmas Eve was here. Excitement filled the air because the little muffins were anxiously awaiting the arrival of you know who? Corn and Ginger refused to dwell on the negative today, it was Christmas Eve, and it was time to celebrate.
Through it all, Ginger never seemed worried or overly concerned about anything. She always continued on with her sweet personality, smiling through the worst of times.
Ginger’s Bread House was a “no frown” zone and she always made everyone feel a little bit better. Ginger’s Bread House could always transform a bad day into a good one.
Being Christmas Eve, Ginger knew everyone would be up late, so she made sure the little muffins got a quick nap so they would be wide awake for the evening festivities. After a couple of hours, Ginger sang, “rise and shine”. The little muffins seemed to be stuck in the warmth of their surroundings, and it was hard to wake them up, but with a little bit of careful nudging, they were soon ready to greet everyone.
Knowing the In-Loaves would soon be arriving, Corn’s stress intensified. He dreaded entertaining the In Loaves and their Rye sense of humor since most of the time they ended up behaving like Heels. Ding-Dong, oh no the ring of the buzzer, the In-Loaves were at the door.
Breads from all over the country began arriving from Yeast to west and everywhere in-between. Aunt Éclair traveled all the way from France, followed by Cousin Pita from Greece. Uncle Crumpet wasn't far behind. Uncle Crumpet always made Ginger a little nervous because he was always a little half baked.
As the family gathered together, laughter consumed the atmosphere and all worries seemed to disappear. Corn and Ginger’s house was filled with love. The family hovered around the oven anticipating the event of the year. Anticipation was rising, as the timer ticked ever so slowly. You might even say that the little muffins were almost crumbling with excitement!
SUDDENLY.......a loud POP was heard outside the little house. The Bread's grew silent, it was time! The moment they had been waiting for! Yes, there he was, easily identifiable by his characteristic hat, shirt, and no pants ensemble, delivering goodies, fresh from the oven. His giggles were endless as he finished his work, he spoke not a word, then grinned with a smirk. He had to get going, other muffins were waiting, he had to move on, no hesitating.
But they heard him exclaim as he soared out of sight, Happy Baking to all and to all a good night!
