I love the sound of a steady, set-in-for-the day rainfall. The window sheers playfully dance from the cool breeze that drifts through the open screen. There is something soothing about the sound of crystal droplets splashing in perfect rhythm against the sidewalk. A calming, straight line, steady downpour magically transforms bubbling pools of water into narrow rippling streams that run seamlessly and gracefully downhill.
There is so much going on these days. I freely admit, at times, it is too much for me. Today, I sit motionless, staring into space as sheets of rain continue to flood the streets and pavement. The unrelenting steadiness of showers somehow provides a momentary escape from reality. I take another sip of coffee as I watch and reflect on the Good 'Ol Days. For just a moment, I am able to forget the unrest all around me. I am lucky. Most of my memories are positive, and today I choose to reflect on the "Good 'ol Days".
Of course, rain is not a cure all for societal woes, but it can provide a buffer of sorts. The next time gray skies open and raindrops fall, STOP! Turn off the TV, set down your phone and take time to listen; really listen. Before you know it, you may just find yourself entranced by the majestic beauty of the stillness found in heavenly tears. Even if just for a moment in time, allow fears and worries to fade. Replace negative images with fond memories and let your mind transport you back to a time of smiles.
